Applied Loads 

 


We will consider the action of the following on a structural element: 

 

Forces: We consider both point and distributed forces, examples include pressure due to wind loading on a surface and a force distributed over the volume due to self-weight:

 

a bar with a point force of 10 kN acting in the far left quadrant a block with a force of 50 kN per metre squared distributed across one of its faces

 

Moments: We consider point bending  moments and torsional moments, where the moment is applied about the longitudinal axis of a member, as follows:
